Getting a Massage in the Month of January is of Global Importance
January 8th, 2010 · Uncategorized
In the spirit of Koha (www.kohayoga.com),(Koha in Maori means gift, present, offering, donation, contribution), we believe there is global importance for you to get a massage this month, because your donation will benefit, The 5 Gyres Project. This project will help end our addition to onetime consumable plastic which is harming our marine system that we all depend upon. Therefore, you donate what you can for your massage and 10% of what you donate will support the 5 Gyres project. The recommended donation for a massage is $1 per minute.
Facts about Koha Yoga Charity Donations:
In Movember (November) Koha Yoga donated over $100 to help end Prostate and Testicular Cancer.
In December, Koha Yoga, through donation massages and flying yoga workshops raised over $200 for, A Circle of Twelve (www.acircleoftwelve.org) “a charitable organization created to empower men and boys around the planet through educational grants, community programs, technical training and health care interventions.”
More Information:
The 5 Gyres Project is headed up by Marcus Eriksen and Anna Cummins who just left on January 3, 2010, out to the North Atlantic Gyre (a gyre is any large system of rotating ocean currents) to begin an exploration of plastic pollution in the world’s oceans. This will be an expansion of the research already conducted in the North Pacific Gyre – the so called “garbage patch”. Some estimate, that in some parts of “the garbage patch” there is up to 40x more PLASTIC than plankton floating around. Therefore, threatening our largest oxygen and food source on our planet. The goal is to bring this issue to a global audience, showing that we find plastic pollution in all major oceans – not just the Pacific. They will be collecting both surface samples and fish, to see where our trash ultimately winds up.
5 Ways to End the Plastic Pollution and Create Healthy Oxygen Filled Oceans
1. Get a Massage from Koha Yoga and 10% will support the research of the 5 Gyre Project
2. Use a re-usable water bottle
3. Use a re-usable bag
4. Bring Your Own (BYO): spoon, fork, knife wherever you go
5. Refuse a straw the next time you are at a restaurant

RakSa, a new, innovative, sustainable studio “was created to provide a sacred space for education, movement, health and healing.” It is a new space in Culver City, and Koha Yoga will be hosting monthly workshops in this space, the first one begins, February 13, 2010, from 1:00-3:00.

Our first event at Raksa, was on Saturday, December 20, 2009 to work with the Raksa Practioner Family to set intentions for their work at RakSa & get to know each other better before the big opening. It was a beautiful, sacred, and heart filled day. We built community through Flying Yoga which was an amazing experience! The ceremony was then completed with a meditation led by Christie Mattull. The day ended with the tasting of the delicious food that will be served at our cafe provided by Luscious Organic Desserts & Metro Cafe. The food was vibrant & nourishing!

It’s Movember
November 2nd, 2009 · Uncategorized
At this very moment I am in Ojai, CA training with Saul David Raye
(http://www.thaiyoga.com/about/about.html), to gain a certification in
Thai Massage equipping myself with tools to provide a better healing.
It is a nine day intensive course (I’ll be back November 7th) and I
am surrounded by beautiful mountains and healing practitioners from
around the world, yet very excited to return to Venice and share what
I am learning.
It is also “Movember, which is the month formerly known as November
where men start clean shaven and commit to growing a Moustache. That’s
right, we are bringing back the Moustache this November to raise funds
and awareness for men’s cancers – specifically prostate and testicular
cancer.”
It is my intention for you to receive a Koha Massage (incorporating
flying, thai, and swedish massage) and “change the face of men’s
health”. I will be working on a donation basis for the month of
Movember (recommendation is $1 per minute) and then donate 10% of the
money earned to Prostate Cancer foundation through Movember.com, you
can find my profile here: http://us.movember.com/mospace/295440 to
watch as the donations grow, just like my moustache.
Though I am in Ojai, you can schedule your Movember Koha Massage
here: http://www.schedulicity.com/MakeReservation.aspx?business=KYUNG4
